We had the privilege and pleasure of working with Mowery Marsh Architects on the gut renovation of our historic townhouse. We are so very pleased with the care, thought, expertise and fun that they infused into the project. The final product is marriage of modern, environmentally friendly innovation with historic preservation that is functional, beautiful and built to stand the test of time.

We were delighted with the renovation that Mowery Marsh did for us.  Since the day it was completed, we have been thankful for the design and for the successful execution.  Their architectural services from beginning to end were exceptional.  Perhaps most of all, Jen and Brian surprised us with their ability to add value every step of the way.  At the outset, they encouraged us to think broadly.  What did we want in our home?  What would make it more beautiful, functional and enjoyable?  In completely creative ways, they found opportunities to incorporate our thoughts and satisfy many of these hopes and dreams beyond our expectations.  Throughout the project, Jen and Brian stayed very close to us and the contractors.  They were alert to many different ways to keep adding value as we went along. We are grateful every day for the unexpected value Jen and Brian brought to this project.

Brian and Jen are incredibly knowledgeable and professional as both architects and designers and we were able to have fun throughout a major gut renovation. To say we are thrilled with how our house turned out would be a huge understatement. We recently completed a renovation of our brownstone in Hoboken which included a large open plan living room and kitchen, a new family room, half bath, a complete overhaul of a studio rental and a redesign of a deck and back garden space. We interviewed architects from both Hoboken and NYC but were confident that we wanted to use Mowery Marsh from our first meeting. They listened intently to what we envisaged from day one and was then able to combine their architectural creativity with beautiful design suggestions to create a finished product that makes us happy to come home to every day. The project went smoothy from the budgeting through the punch list and MMA was an integral part of it all the way through. With their fantastic attention to detail and great advice on contractors, suppliers, stone, tile, floors etc., we felt in the very best of hands, we would use them again and recommend them highly.

We just finished our second renovation with Mowery Marsh and couldn’t be happier. Our first project was a complete gut renovation of a brownstone and they handled everything: architect, construction coordinator and interior decorator all in one. They made the whole process so easy and the final results are fantastic – a perfect combination of a classic brownstone with modern amenities and decor. After that project, we had no hesitation to enlist them for a beach house renovation which once again came out better than we could have imagined. I can’t say how much I enjoyed working with Jennifer. She was level-headed and calming, but also fun. And at least equally important, very talented. She was able to translate my ideas into a reality which far surpassed my expectations, but always reflected my vision. At the same time, her work ethic was organized, efficient and detail-oriented.

Jen & Brian helped us with the biggest decisions in the initial design to the smallest ones as the project finished up, each time finding the right balance for us between function, appearance and cost. We could not be happier with the final product, we love our home. Its like being on vacation everyday.

When we realized our home was too small for our growing family, we thought the only choice was to move, but we loved the neighborhood and schools. As we looked at options in the district, they were either similar to current house or too expensive. We contacted Mowery Marsh Architects to see if something could be done to make our existing house more livable for our family. They came up with a small addition and redesign that added a tremendous amount of space at an affordable price. It actually became the most cost effective option and it allowed us to include design options that we wanted and needed. Mowery Marsh added extreme value to the entire process and allowed us to stay in our current home by making the space more useable and enjoyable.

Jen Marsh is the most professional architect I have ever worked with.

The house has an amazing amount of living space in a small package. From the outside it looks like a modest beach cottage but inside there is enough space to hold three generations, including 7 kids, without feeling cramped. MMA was able to skillfully and diplomatically bring together the ideas, needs, and wishes of the entire family creating a vacation home designed to maximize the use of space and provide wonderful views; and all within our budget.

When we bought our home, we knew that the kitchen had an awkward layout but we weren’t prepared for how cold it was, for 6 months of the year. We decided to partially combine it with our dining room, making it an eat-in kitchen, and extending the back of the house. This was a project that would require quite major construction, so it was a sizable endeavor. We had seen Mowery Marsh’s work on their website and Houzz (it was prior to all those articles published in magazines like Dwell), and we were very impressed with their minimal design sensibility. We live in a Victorian home with beautiful details typical of the era. Combining modern designs with the 120-year-old home would be a challenge and when Brian presented the plans, we were blown away. We didn’t make one change, and we are very picky. We now have a gorgeous kitchen and bathroom, an incredible space to work in, and thanks to their knowledge of construction of passive homes, they’re now the warmest rooms in the house. We recommend them highly.

Brian was instrumental for our home remodel; from planning, bidding, budgeting, execution, oversite, and follow up. His experience was invaluable throughout the project, and the process ultimately transformed our home into a beautiful and functional space that we love. It was clear that Brian had extensive experience with each of the issues and decisions that we encountered at every phase of the project.
